New $10 Million Travel Center Project Coming to Turrell

The City of Turrell is pleased to announce that a new Travel Center is preparing to break ground soon near I-55 and Highway 42.

What Could This Mean for Turrell?

This major private investment has the potential to create lasting benefits for our community, including:

• New jobs and employment opportunities for area residents during construction and after the Travel Center opens.

• Increased economic activity as travelers, truck drivers, and visitors stop, shop, purchase fuel, and spend money in our community.

• Additional tax revenue that can help support City services and future community improvements.

• Greater visibility for Turrell because of our strategic location along the I-55 corridor.

• Opportunities for future business development as additional companies and investors see growth taking place in our community.

• Continued infrastructure development to support commercial growth and prepare Turrell for future opportunities.

How This Growth Can Help Our Youth

The Travel Center can also create new opportunities for the young people of Turrell. As our local economy grows, our goal is to connect that growth to stronger opportunities for our youth through:

• Part-time and entry-level employment opportunities for eligible young people.

• Work-readiness experience that can help youth develop responsibility, communication, customer service, and other job skills.

• Career exposure to construction, transportation, retail, management, maintenance, and other industries connected to economic development.

• Future partnerships with schools and community programs that may support job shadowing, career awareness, internships, and workforce development.

• A stronger local economy that can help support youth programs, including after-school activities, weekend activities, recreation, and community events.

Specific youth programs and partnerships will depend on future City decisions, available resources, and cooperation with local businesses, schools, and community organizations. However, attracting major investment gives Turrell a stronger foundation for creating these opportunities.

With a project of this size, the City will also continue to plan carefully for the impacts of additional traffic, utility needs, public safety, sanitation, and other municipal services as development progresses.
